OVERVIEW
If you are a web developer, you are already a Windows 8 developer. Come and learn
the fundamentals of building Windows 8 applications using HTML and Javascript. Starting with examples that use first principles, the HOL will cover initial project setup, how frameworks like jQuery, RenderJs, Knockout, etc. fit, and how to levarage WinJS and Windows 8 features to build quality Metro applications.

WHAT TO BRING

There will be follow-along labs. Participants should bring a laptop with Windows 8 Release Preview and Visual Studio 2012 Express installed. Both installs can be found at HDC Windows 8 HOL

SCHEDULE

8 AM Platform Intro with Follow-Along Lab: Attendees will follow-along in real-time to build a sample application for Windows 8. Will include how to use first principles, other development frameworks, and the WinJS platform. Completion of the lab will result in a working Twitter Search application.
8:50PM Break – Q&A & Bug Fix Time
9 AM Understanding Windows 8 Contracts: Attendees will learn the fundamentals of leveraging the Search, Share, and Settings contract to build an integrate Metro-style application. These features will be added to the sample app in the closing Lab.
9:50 PM Break – Q&A & Bug Fix Time
10 AM Using WinJS and Other System Features: This session will look at accessing storage, networking, and more.
10:50 AM Break – Q&A & Bug Fix Time
11 AM Lab – Building on the Intro App: Starting with the sample app from the beginning of the day, attendees will add capabilities to the application based on the features introduced in early sessions.
